From the point of Light within the Mind of God
Let Light stream forth into the minds of men.
Let Light descend on Earth.

From the Point of Love within the Heart of God
Let Love stream forth into the hearts of men.
May Love return to Earth.

From the centre where the Will of God is known
Let purpose guide the little wills of men -
The purpose which the Masters know and serve.

From the centre which we call the race of men
Let the Plan of Love and Light work out
And may it seal the door where evil dwells.

Let Light and Love and Power restore
the Plan on Earth

The Great Invocation is simultaneously a prayer, an alignment technique, a meditation formula and a mantric invocation for Light and Love, evoking response. It embodies divine intent and summarises the purpose of the Plan for humanity. Concentrated, meditative thinking can reveal the underlying abstract idea in invocation. It can lead to new levels and dimensions of thought.

This invocation does not belong to any person or group but to humanity.
Its beauty and strength lie in its simplicity and in the expression of certain central truths which all men, innately and normally, accept: the truth in the existence of a basic intelligence to whom we give the name of "God"; the truth that a great individuality, called by Christians the 'Christ', embodied that love so that we could understand; the truth that both love and intelligence are effects of what is called the Will of God; and the self-evident truth that only through humanity itself can the Divine Plan work out.

I first heard this prayer being spoken by Sir George Trevelyan at a Light Festival in Cheltenham, England, in the 1980's. Such was the impact it had on me, I have used it ever since and passed it on to many hundreds of people with whom I have come into contact when teaching my courses and workshops.

Sir George Trevelyan explained that this Invocation had been given to the world by Alice Bailey in 1948 - under instruction from the Christ and is destined to become of major usefulness in the establishing on earth of the Divine Plan, to be accomplished willingly by humanity itself. Tens of thousands of people recite The Great Invocation worldwide at every minute of the day. It is one of the greatest of the world's prayers.

It voices the basic needs of humanity today - the need for light and love, for understanding of the divine will, and for the end of evil. It says triumphantly: "Let light descend on earth". It then sums it all up in the clarion words: "Let light and love and power restore the Plan on Earth".

When my daughter Ruth Copland was growing up she accompanied both her parents, who were Healers, to a number of big public events and for several years it became a tradition for Ruth to recite the prayer of 'The Great Invocation' and light a candle to open the annual conference of the National Federation of Spiritual Healers (NFSH). Having experienced for many years the immense power of The Great Invocation to open and uplift the heart, Ruth was inspired to put the prayer to music. She created a melody that mirrored the healing potency of the prayer and with permission, she also updated the words so that the prayer would apply to 'humanity' rather than just to 'Man'. Everyone who heard this version pleaded with her to record it. You can hear it for yourself on her stunning CD - 'Hidden Fire' which also includes a selection of uplifting songs written and performed by Ruth, and devised to heal through words and melody.
